After we defeated our first enemies in the previous chapter, I decided to return to Altair and go to an inn to heal myself. Fuck got pretty fucked (puns) up in that fight.

Final Fantasy II's inns work differently from other inns in the series. How does it work, you ask? Well, instead of having a fixed price, like say 10 Gil, the amount that you have to pay varies according to how much HP/MP you have. So in other words, the more you are fucked up and the stronger you are, the more you'll have to pay. So these inn owners know that you are desperate to get some rest and will charge you more for it. Capitalism at its finest right here, folks.

This inn system is also another major source of pain if you plan to grind early in the game. If you grind too early using tactics like hitting your own party members, you'll fuck yourself later on because you won't have enough gil to rest at an inn. When I briefly played the NES version, this happened with me. This is why it is a good idea to play the game normally until you have a good amount of Gil to grind.

While walking north heading towards Fynn, we find the town of Gatrea. Its inhabitants mention that Castle Fynn has been occupied by the imperial forces and that no one can enter. We can enter the town, but there are imperial troops and monsters on the streets so we'll have to be careful. One person mentions something about a pub on the outskirts of Fynn. Sounds like a good place to check for some info.

Oh yeah, remember the wells in the original game? Well, the wells in this game don't even give you a nice message. Lame :(

After walking a little bit further from Gatrea, we reach Fynn.

The town seems pretty well-conserved for a place we saw being burned and destroyed in the FMV opening. What gives?

This is not a stealth mission or anything of the like. We just need to avoid talking to the imperials, or else we'll trigger a fight against them and we'll get our asses kicked. I remember that you COULD defeat them in a fight, if you have grinded enough, but in the NES version even if you did win the fight the guard that you defeated will still be present in the map, and if you talk to the guard again you'll just trigger another fight. Not sure if this also happens in this version.

There are no other NPCs walking around the town other than the guards and houses and shops are abandoned.

Also, there are random encounters in the town. Yep.

Going in a little area inside the town, you can find a pub, the only area that has a NPC other than guards. As expected, the imperials are getting shitfaced and are probably making sexual advances towards their comrades. Nothing spells corruption like drunk guards.

We are not interested in the guards, however, although the guards would probably like a piece of Tits' ass. We just need to talk to the bartender and tell the "Wild Rose" password and he'll open a passage to a hidden room for us. The bartender then promptly leaves the place, because he was getting uncomfortable with the guards being overly friendly with him. Yep, I'm sure that's what happened.

Oh hey, it's Scott, the one from the opening. Guess I was a bit abrupt in saying that he was already dead but it's not like he is going to stay alive much longer for it to make any difference.

In the room there are 3 treasure chests with potions in them. I got them first before talking to Scott. He must have felt pretty shitty. Probably thought something like: "Who are these people? Have they come to kill me...? Oh yeah, go ahead and ignore me. Tossers."

Telling Scott the "Wild Rose" password will make him realize that we're the good guys. Seriously, how could you think that we are imperials? Are we equipped like imperials? Do imperials (besides the emperor) look as metrosexual as Fuck?

He then introduces himself. Scott, prince of Kashuan. He is the brother of Gordon, the one that we saw in Altair. You remember him, right? No? You will remember soon.

Fuck says that they were told that Scott fell in battle. But although alive, Scott is greatly injured. He asks us a favor (3 to be exact): Tell his brother Gordon that Scott knows he has great strength and to have more faith in himself, tell the King that the reason Fynn fell so quickly is because Count Borghen betrayed them and has been made an imperial general, and to tell Hilda that he loves her.

He then takes back the last favor that he asked of us. Believing that the confessions of a dying man would only bring Hilda pain.

Tits, however, does not give a flying fuck about the wishes of a dying man, and is only worried about her brother. Way to go Tits.

Unfortunately, Scott doesn't know anything about Gee, so that whole thing only highlighted that Tits is a self-centered bitch. Scott gets up from his bed and offers his ring to us, saying that it will be of use later. After that, Scott starts feeling weaker.

Scott then falls to the floor and blinks away from existence like a good game character should do. This won't be the last time that we'll see Scott, so don't cry.

WE GOT HIS RING THOUGH
